Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission. Everything that is said between the therapist (Dr. Colleen Morgan) and the client is held in strict confidentiality. I apply this same strict confidentiality policy to my coaching-mentoring clients.

Exceptions to this confidentiality include:

  • If you tell me about suspected abuse of a child, dependent adult, or elder, I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately. In most cases, I will provide the name and phone number of the client who reported the suspected abuse to the appropriate authority so they can contact the client for more information. This does not mean that I will report abuse you experienced or witnessed as a child unless the abuser still has access to children (e.g. current teacher, coach, youth minister, etc.). In other words, if you disclose abuse you experienced as a child and that person still works with children, I will report this to the authorities.
  • If you are threatening serious bodily harm to another person, people, institution, or agency, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim(s).
  • If you verbalize active suicidal ideation or intent to engage in self-harm, I will make every effort to enlist your cooperation in ensuring your safety. If you are unable or unwilling to cooperate, I will take further measures without your permission to ensure your safety, as required by law. This may include involving law enforcement to aid in keeping you safe.
